Super Forecasters

Image
This article gives an introduction to the concept of " superforecaster ". It has occurred to me that I may be a great " Cassandra " but I could learn to be a better Cassandra. One key is to continually check your forecast against new information. As it stands, this is what I forecast as of July 26, 2021: Endemic Covid, most of world population (vaccinated or not) infected by end of 2021 Existing measures like social distancing, masks, lock downs ineffective in the long run. Politicians gradually coming to this conclusions.  100 million deaths by end of 2021 If this seems alarmist, I encourage the reader to read up on "breakthrough infections" - Infections of vaccinated people. It gives a glimpse of how delta is not you cuddly old classic COVID. It spreads with astonishing speed and effectiveness. And it's ripping through most of the world which has no access to vaccines at all. Vaccines save lives but may actually help the virus to spread via people ...

Happy talk, COVID and The Casandra Complex

Image
This may not belong in a blog about Second Life, but let's face it, real life is the most popular topic in Second Life.   I have a bad case of  Cassandra Complex ". It turns out that I am very good at seeing catastrophe coming. At least three times I have been fired from huge projects for predicting disaster. Once disaster actually struck, for some reason, nobody gets back to pat me on the back. When COVID struck, back in early 2020, my view of the future was very dark. I could see hundreds of millions of deaths, based on what we knew at that point. Back then, we did not expect a vaccine any tie soon. For a time, the mRNA vaccines seemed to change the math. At first, the news was dominated by  epi curves . We all talked about 'flattening the curve", meaning driving down the exponential explosion of cases, hospitalizations and deaths. Once the vaccine started to roll out, the focus became on getting everyone vaccinated. Although you may not have noticed, that phase e...

Mansplaining

Image
I will have more to say on this topic later. For now, I love the chart above. A good friend supplied it. She's one of the smartest, best informed people I know. Yet, for some reason, men are constantly "explaining" things to her (or at her). My own experience is similar.  For me, it's the difference between "mansplaining" (which I regard as a red flag - a character flaw) and exploring a topic together, which I love.

My Life As an Arrogant Bitch

Image
I'm a member of MENSA - supposedly the top 3% of the population as far as IQ goes. That assessment is not entirely accurate, but it's a subject for another discussion. I remember my first meeting. What struck me is that we could just talk without seeming "arrogant" because of our larger vocabulary, wider general knowledge and deeper understanding of issues. Having said that, it is certainly possible to be an actual arrogant bitch and be a member of Mensa. It is also very common to be a total bitch while being dumb as a post. One has nothing to do with the other. There is another issue that confronts ladies in Second Life: the need for men to prove their superior knowledge of all things. It's called " mansplaining ". Overcome with lust at the sight of my (standard Maitreya) body, men fail to notice that I have been in Second Life over 10 years. To be sure, I'm always learning, but I'm not a newbie. A person who approaches me in the spirit if com...

How to Meet a Real Person in Second Life

Image
I get two complaints from ladies and men. Ladies complain the guys are all assholes wanting nothing but sex ( see previous blog ). Guys complain that ladies blow them off. 99% of even the most polite advances are greeted by rude replies or a vanishing prospect. So here is a suggestion: For guys who don't want to use Second Life as cheap porn - guys who actually want to meet ladies and keep their company, avoid the nude beach . Go to places like Frank's where the girls are all standing there waiting to be asked to dance (they are mostly there to show off their gowns, but odds are better than the beach). For gals, the same advice holds. Avoid the nude beaches. Guys assume nudity=ready for sex.  Guys at Frank's are looking for at least a chat. They are on their best behaviour. Read profiles to sort out the dedicated perverts. But be patient. You can stand around a long time before anyone notices you. Look your best. Bring a book. For the girls, I strongly recommend the ...

Some Raw Data on SL Sex

Image
Surfing in Naked Sims I was out on my jet ski last night, ripping up the waves and looking fabulous when I see someone laboriously sending a message. You know, open chat but "x is typing". After a couple of minutes, I see the message he worked on for so long. Want to fuck? We see this kind of thing quite frequently, but rarely in such a pure form. This was the eager "suitor" Shander91 Looking good, even if somewhat "over the top". So I checked profile. Age 10 months. Nothing else. No picture, no payment method. But a long list of groups. More and more, it seemed that Shander is a pure example of a type. The groups themselves tell a story: Voice Sex Erotica I love sex "HORN" Teen Sluts (Voice Sex) Whore Street ** School Girls * Russian Sex Hunters * Voice young girls for Daddy YES! We Voice Make Love! Young girls for old men Young GIrls Love Black Dick *Voice Gangbangs * Sexy Games RU Teen Girl 18 VOICE ME BABY RUSSIAN HORNY SLUTS TEAM RUSSIAN R...

Second Life SCUBA

Image
It can be hard to find great SCUBA places in Second Life. I just want to save a few for your information and entertainment.  I wear the amazing  simulation Scuba Gear . Damn close to the real thing with a simulated buoyancy compensator and dive computer. If you dive in real life, you'll love it. If not, you may find it confusing. SCUBA is not "flying underwater".  Extasia DaVinci - Amazing as Usual Whimsy has many interesting underwater scenes to explore. Thera - in "New Santorini Carribean Sea of Love McLatchy - Protected Land Colorful with a helpful path to follow Rua Very small Lisa's Garden (Fantastic and colorful. Land in rez zone and find the the water  on Siren's Beach) A whole menu of SCUBA sites in Blake Sea Other places: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Pravatch/239/228/2 http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Union%20Passage/244/240/3 http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Fanci%20Deep%20NW/111/120/10 http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Extasi...

The Boat Bug

Image
The Jet Ski got me started. I can still spend hours zooming around the sea in Second Life. It never gets old. There is a kind of "video game" skill to it. Eventually, you decide to jump in for a swim. Then you start wondering a boat big enough for your friends. So you shop ... In this video, I take the big boat out from shore and go for a sunset dip. All this can be combined with the Jet Ski, swim AO and SCUBA. And no sun burn!! Of course, this can get totally out of control .. For sailors or pilots, this hud is essential. It makes it easy to find rez zones. Thanks to a guy who wanted to jump my bones but got all nasty about me mentioning other avis. Such as him. So he will remain anonymous.

Rezzing In The Sea

Image
You don't need a berth or land to park your virtual boat. You can rez it directly in the Second Life Sea. In this post, I'll give you some general tips and then some specific landmarks. This post is always a work i progress. Feel free to suggest your own favourite rez zones in comments. Thankfully a guy mansplaiined all this to me and recommended this hud . It's all you really need to find a place to rez your boat. South East Corner Full Screen - Note Coordinates on Top  This follows the "rule" in the very nice Eden sea - Fulmar (6,1,8).  In the photo, note that the sea bottom gives a clue. Also, always best to assume a top-down view to rez directly on the land mark. In the  Blake Sea  it's the NE corner,  apparently in every region of the sea. Lovely Pier Rez Zone in North Sea I have not yet figured out where the rez zones generally are in the North Sea.

Furries

Image
Lucifera is an old friend. Very helpful with details of SL. Builds stuff. Has a  barn full of avis. This is a chat on furry philosophy ... [2021/01/25 13:02:49] Lucifera Heartsong: There is a range of sizes across my avatars, for those. Believe it or not. :D [2021/01/25 13:03:15] Lucifera Heartsong: This one's smaller than the two before, slider-wise, for example. [2021/01/25 13:04:20] Lucifera Heartsong: And the goal was to create something that was in theme for the club, while not looking repulsive, and retaining some kind of professional elegance. [2021/01/25 13:04:33] BetttyVerdant: works for me [2021/01/25 13:05:57] Lucifera Heartsong: The next one didn't have a tremendously deep concept to start with...someone at a store was talking to someone else and said in local, "What would happen if the genie from Disney's animated "Aladdin" was female, or had a sister?" And that got me wondering... I n SL the journey from "wondering" to "real...
